At the beginning of October, the project "World Phenomena – Money" aimed at developing pupils' financial literacy was launched at 100 Slovak primary schools.
Nowadays, children perceive contents differently than previous generations. Their attention is focused on cyberspace, where they mainly watch videos of popular influencers or their friends on social networks. One of the ways to engage them on such an important topic as financial literacy is to understand education in a modern and playful experimental form. And that is precisely why the project World Phenomena – Money, intended for teaching directly at schools, was created. Thanks to Tatra Banka, the general partner of the project, 100 Slovak schools received a free package of educational materials with which they will implement innovative teaching of financial literacy. During two project months, students will learn about the history of money and its meaning. They will also think about proper money management or financial planning for the future.
A vital element of the World Phenomena – Money are videos produced by the world-famous BBC, which, combined with a variety of activities and interactive exercises, capture students' attention and teach them to think in context. At the same time, students will focus on the development of critical thinking and teamwork. They will use those experience in their working lives later.
More information about experiential teaching with the World Phenomena can be found at www.fenomenysveta.sk (in Slovak language).
